Fitting the king plank

While the cover boards are mahogany, I decided to make the king plank out of maple to add some contrast.  One of the boards had a slight cup to it that made it fit nicely on the front deck.  The curve of the deck is a bit more pronounced along the centerline so the cupping made a better fit.

This is the start of the king plank with some loose planks just to see how it looks.  I wanted the maple to turn at the stem to merge into the thin maple strips that will outline the cover boards.  This is how that will look:

The 1/4" maple strips will form the contrast between each plank will also be used to form a line along the inside of the of the cover boards.

This shows a strip being glued and clamped into position.  With these all in place the planking can begin.
